Cornerstone Assembly of God

8200 Schrade Road

Rowlett, Texas  75088

In 1979, the Lord called Allen Gregory to leave his Associate Pastor position and begin a new church. In October of 1980, Cornerstone Assembly of God Church began in the living room of the Gregory’s home with 4 in attendance — Allen, Dena and their children Tammy & Tim, Within a few months, the Tender Touch Learning Center was rented to begin Sunday and Wednesday Services. They soon began looking for property to build a new church.

In the Summer of 1981. the church acquired a loan from the North Texas District Council of the Assemblies of God and purchased 4 acres of property on Schrade Road for $40,000. In the Spring of 1982, $27,500.00 was raised and $17,500.00 was (borrowed from N.T.D.C. to build a new building — the Dome. With many years of contracting experience, Pastor Gregory began the majority of the construction of the dome, with men and teens from the church helping. In 1982, the average attendance was 50. By 1989 the average attendance was 175— the Dome would seat only 150. We were busting out at the seams; it was time to build again.

In the spring of 1990 the church acquired a loan of $270,000.00 from Christian Fidelity for the new sanctuary. The previous debt to N.T.D.C. was paid off at this time. Construction began on the 450 seat sanctuary in the summer of 1990 and was completed in October. 1990. This building was also built by Pastor, but the church had many more men who helped this time. As well as the men from the Dallas Teen Challenge: even the women pitched in. The doors to the new sanctuary opened in November to rejoicing and shouts of victory God had provided.

Over the many years, Pastor, Dena and the congregation prayed for more land to build a larger sanctuary and classrooms so that we could better minister to the surrounding communities and reach more people for Christ. The 34 acres directly behind the church was prayed over many times: the Lord promised He would make a way. In January of 1993, the 34 acres adjoining the property was purchased for $125,000.00 for the Sanctuary Complex.
